Under the Harvest Moon Gala Just Around the Corner

By Andrea Cleary and Betsy Frasier
The inaugural fundraiser, Under the Harvest Moon, supporting Neighbor In Need (NIN) is taking shape and tickets sales have gone well. VIP tickets are now sold out, but general admission tickets still are available for $50. The sponsor list continues to grow, and includes (at printing), The East Atlanta Foundation, Atlanta City Council Member Natalyn Archibong (District 5), Endive Catering, Edgewood Retail District, Sweet Cheats, Commander, LLC., Darlene Conley (Highlands Cove Realty), and Capital Downs.
Food choices will be plentiful, with Endive Catering offering a full buffet of savory Mediterranean fare and Sweet Cheats taking care of the sweet tooth. The VIP reception will be hosted by the Argosy and The Elder Tree. Like dancing? With a real dance floor under the big tent, you can get your groove on while Penny Serenade, a local band with a 20s swing sound, performs.
The Jarrell Family, original owners of 810 Flat Shoals Avenue from the 1940s to the 1990s, will be the event’s special guests. This was their family’s home for sixty-six years, until Jenny Murray and Mark Dobiecki bought it from their mother. Jenny told us that just in time for this special gala, all five Jarrell kids will be together for the first time in years.
As a special thanks to all the volunteers who have put in many hours, Jenny has kindly offered access to the house for an extra hour so they can have a moment to relax and enjoy the fruits of their labors. She will conduct an additional VIP tour for the volunteers only, from 10:15pm to 11:15pm.
In addition to the top sponsors, there is a long list of In-Kind sponsors who have helped make this event possible: Endive Catering (full buffet meal), Sweet Cheats, LLC (desserts and other sweets), Old Fourth Ward Distillery (liquor), The Argosy (VIP reception), Brothers that Brew (craft beer), Cal’s Tree Service (wood for fire pits and a Silent Auction donation), East Atlanta Copy Center (printing posters and collateral), The Elder Tree Public House (VIP reception), Holy Taco (Permitting), Instant One Media (outdoor banners), Andy Cleary, Indelible Marks LLC (design, marketing), ScreenFixing.com (media/electronics), Marc Takacs, Atlanta In-Town Keller Williams, Traci, Eye Graphic Design, LLC, Midway Pub (beer), and Yeast Atlanta (craft beer).
Items for the silent auction still are needed, but the event is off to a great start with The Old Edward’s Club, Highlands, NC, donating a foursome of golf with a cart; Dad’s Garage, donating Improv classes; Drew Galloway, donating an oil painting; the Center for Puppetry Arts, donating a family pack of four tickets; and an overnight at the Zuber-Jarrell House, donated by the hosts.
While everything is falling into place, the following still are needed: A moon-inspired photo booth, flowers (mums, sunflowers, dahlias, ‘fall color’), strands of outdoor, white, or clear holiday lights, 8×10 or larger frames, mason jars, hay or straw (to borrow, rent, or buy at cost), pumpkins, and pallets. To keep the music flowing after the band, an MC still is in demand.
The event takes place Saturday, October 15, at 810 Flat Shoals Avenue. You can buy tickets at www.EACA.net. Contact Nancy Carpenter at nancy.carpenter1@gmail.com or Andy Cleary at andy_c@me.com with your contributions. All donations are tax-deductible.
Under the Harvest Moon Gala benefits Neighbor in Need (NIN) of East Atlanta. This event is presented by The East Atlanta Foundation and hosted by NIN of East Atlanta and The East Atlanta Community Association.
