We reported in this paper a couple of months ago that a deal was in the offing for the old Gordon School property in the East Atlanta Village. The deal is signed and delivered and even though bulldozers will probably not show up next week, plans for redevelopment are now ready to move forward. That is only one of several changes that are scheduled to take place in the Village.
The Traders store has long been a fixture on Flat Shoals Avenue. The store began across the street from its current location at 485B in one of the small shops next to the old Madison Theatre. The store has been closed for the summer and now it has been announced that it will not reopen. In its place will be a new store called Kaboodles. Kaboodles will feature artwork, crafts and furniture for the home from local artisans. We can expect an opening later in August.
Down the street the façade of the old East Atlanta Arts and Antiques Exchange is starting to show signs of new life. The front wall has been detailed with heart pine boards that have been recycled from the old building that began as an A&P Grocery. Half of the wall has been torn out to create a new front door and a patio area. All this is to establish the new gastro pub that will be called The Argosy. The heart pine continues on the inside to compliment the other designer touches and a brick oven at the back. The first big change to the outside happened earlier this summer with the striking mural on the north-facing wall and a new parking lot off of Flat Shoals. The Argosy is planning for an opening in the fall. By the way the A&P did not begin its life in East Atlanta at this location. It actually started in one of the small storefronts back down the street where Traders Store had its beginnings.
