The Tire Roundup, one of the many successful volunteer programs in our East Atlanta neighborhoods, returns this year on Saturday, April 15. Once a year, in honor of Earth Day, neighbors can drop off, or volunteers will pick up, old tires and take them to CHaRM, located at 1110 Hill Street in Chosewood Park. This is free service and is made possible by Councilwoman Natalyn Archibong and East Atlanta volunteers.
Tires will be accepted for free at CHaRM on that day from 9:00am until 1:00pm. You can drop your tire/tires off yourself; just tell them you live in East Atlanta. If you are unable to do this, CHaRM and volunteers will either pick up on that day before 12:00pm or make arrangements and a trusty volunteer will pick up the tires ahead of time. This is for East Atlanta neighborhoods only. Please email Nancy at nlhenn@bellsouth.net if you have tires that need to be picked up or if you see tires on the street or in a vacant lot.
This event has made a huge difference in the number of abandoned tires lying around the community. In the past, thousands of tires have been collected in just four hours. Last year, there were only about 50, which is a huge and noticeable improvement in the area.
The City of Atlanta does not pick up tires, so do not put them on the curb expecting sanitation to pick them up. Except for this one day a year, it is the business or homeowner that have the responsibility to dispose of them by taking them to CHaRM (the first two tires are always free) or pay a tire shop a small fee to take them.
If you would like to volunteer on that day, please email Nancy at nlhenn@bellsouth.net.
