If you’re looking for a dog who will absolutely adore you, meet Izzy. This 35-pound, two-year-old Lab mix is affectionate, curious, smart and happiest when she’s close to her people. Her favorite things include cuddles, squeaky balls, chasing squirrels and lizards, and watching birds from the window. Once she decides you’re her person, prepare to have a devoted little shadow!
Izzy came to the Atlanta Humane Society from a stressful situation, so living in a house was brand new to her. When she arrived at our home six weeks ago, she approached everything with enthusiastic curiosity—and thought it was perfectly appropriate to sit on our kitchen table, bathroom vanity and even the top of the toilet tank!
Since then, we’ve watched Izzy learn her manners and discover how to be a family dog. She’s much more relaxed, has made huge strides with house-training and looks to our resident dog for cues about the household routine. She’s incredibly smart and a lot of fun to train.
Izzy is still perfecting her house-training and learning that people, couches and countertops are not for jumping on. She knows shoes aren’t for chewing—but will happily trade one for a rawhide bone instead! Izzy is also heartworm-positive. It’s not contagious, and she’s receiving treatment through the Atlanta Humane Society, but she’ll need some extra rest and quiet time while she finishes treatment. She’ll need a patient family willing to keep teaching her the ropes.
In return, they’ll get a funny, intelligent and incredibly loving dog who wants nothing more than to belong.
