The East Atlanta Strut is Giving Marching Orders!

By Michelle Rice

In other words, the Strut Parade is back on Saturday, September 23, at noon. Everyone is welcome to join the parade on foot, in a vehicle, on bikes, or on a float. If you’d rather watch, the parade will pass you on Glenwood Avenue from Patterson to Moreland Avenues.

After the parade, spread out for a day of Porchfest-With-A-Twist activities in East Atlanta Village and the surrounding neighborhood. Strut HQ will be at the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market lot on Stokeswood, so start there. Don’t miss the Strut Artists’ Market behind Southern Feedstore at Glenwood and Joseph Avenues, and then head to the various Strut hubs for more art, food, and music.

Make sure to play Llama Poop Bingo behind Metropolitan Studios near Flat Shoals and Metropolitan Avenues. Check out live music at the Argosy on Flat Shoals, and the Leaf Blower Madness tournament on the bocce courts behind Midway Pub on Flat Shoals near Glenwood.

New this year is a kids’ area at Brownwood Park, brought to you by East Atlanta Kids Club and Bookish Atlanta. There also will be a 5K race before the parade organized by Ruff Runners and Village Fitness.

Old this year is the Strut, which celebrates its 25th year! Started by volunteers as a benefit for a children’s charity, the Strut is still totally run by volunteers and still giving back all the profits to the community in the form of thousands of dollars in grants to neighborhood nonprofits and schools.

In addition to parade participants, the Strut is looking for sponsors, volunteers, host houses, bands, and vendors. Sign up and say how you want to Strut at www.eastatlantastrut.com.
