Adopt-A-Grandparent has been a staple organization in the Grant Park/South Atlanta areas for over 34 years. Our mission is to reverse loneliness and isolation in the lives of our city’s senior citizens by matching them with a caring qualified adult volunteer who enters into that senior’s life to surrogately adopt them. The adoption simply means that a senior, once plagued by depression caused by loneliness, is suddenly receiving weekly visits, regular phone calls, and opportunities to breach the confines of their home to enjoy community outings with their volunteer. Of course, because Adopt-A-Grandparent is a nonprofit agency, which is a self-sustaining subsidiary of FCS Urban Ministries, fundraising has been challenging in our struggling economy. Still, our friends and neighborhood partners continue to help us find innovative ways to raise the funds needed to provide recruitment and training of volunteers, outreach and ongoing case management for ailing seniors, and opportunities to bring seniors together at events that help enrich their lives.
We are in need of an outpouring of community support for our next fundraising event, which will allow Adopt-A-Grandparent to reach even more isolated seniors this summer. Here’s how you can support the elderly while enjoying a good night’s sleep: Adopt-A-Grandparent is hosting a Summer Mattress Sale!
Please come out to the FCS Urban Ministries Campus on at 750 Glenwood Avenue, on Saturday, July 28, 2012. The Adopt-A-Grandparent Organization will be sponsoring their first mattress fundraiser.
Name brand (Restonic and Southerland) mattress sets will be sold at 30-60% below retail prices. These are all top quality mattresses with full factory warranties. All sizes and price ranges for every pocketbook. Delivery and free lay-a-way are available. Floor models will be displayed from 10:00am-5:00pm at the FCS Urban Ministries Campus. The sale is for one day only.
Anyone in the market for a mattress please consider waiting until the sale to visit us on July 28 and help our organization raise enough funds to increase the numbers of seniors we are so willing and ready to help.
