Sign up for Sci-Tech Fun & Fitness Camp in East Atlanta

By Jill Sieder
Sure, you could spend your summer holed up in your house mastering Minecraft or bingeing Supernatural on Netflix. Or, you could take it to another level, with some other mind-challenging, creative, fun and, dare we say, social activities. Kids from 2nd to 8th grade will have plenty of opportunities this summer at the Sci-Tech Fun & Fitness Camp at Brownwood Park in East Atlanta.
The camp, organized by the East Atlanta Kids Club, will offer hands-on activities including science experiments, computer coding, robotics, arts and crafts, fashion design, music and beat making, African drumming, and cooking and healthy eating. Each day will also feature plenty of fitness and outdoor activities, including cycling, Double Dutch jump roping, and team sports such as basketball, kickball and Capture the Flag. Field trips will include excursions to the swimming pool and local theme parks. Campers are divided into two groups, elementary and middle school age, and engage in most activities with their age group.
The fun takes place at Brownwood Park and Recreation Center, located in the heart of East Atlanta. The four week camp runs Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm, June 11 to July 13, with a break the week of July 2-6. Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided to campers, along with a cool camp tee.
Registration for the first two weeks of camp will continue through June 4; after that, registration deadlines are 10 days prior to the start of that weekly session. The cost is $150/week, with $25 sibling or multiple week discounts. Parents may register campers at http://bit.ly/scitechcamp2018. The camp usually fills up in May, so don’t delay! Some need-based scholarships may still be available; please contact East Atlanta Kids Club staff at 404-627-8050 to inquire, and/or complete this web form: http://bit.ly/eakcsummercamp.
Please note that attendance at a parent orientation for camp is mandatory. Orientations will take place on Saturday, June 2 from 10:00am to 11:15am, and Thursday, June 7 from 6:00pm to 7:15pm at Brownwood Recreation Center, 602 Brownwood Avenue.
Call 404-627-8050 or email aokoh@eastatlantakids.org for more details about the summer camp, or to learn more about the EAKC Kids Club or Teen Club after-school programs, which will resume in August.
East Atlanta Kids Club is a nonprofit tutoring, mentoring and enrichment program offering a rich variety of educational, recreational and cultural activities to youth ages 7 to 17.
