SAND Meeting – Thursday, April 14, 2022

City/State/School/Other Elected Officials (5 minutes per): Brooke from Councilmember Bakhtiari’s office – 4-way stop at Glenwood and Hemlock will be implemented. Traffic calming measurements at Ormewood and Flat Shoals in EAV. District 5 website: www.district5atl.com.

Special Guests (5 minutes per): Atlanta BeltLine Subarea 4 Master Plan update and Ormewood Park Bridge Mural. Been working the last month or two on a new draft for the community to comment on. It’s available for at least two months for the community to review it. https://beltline.org/the-project/planning-and-communityengagement/master-plan-updates-feedback. Drew Borders is installing a brand-new mural on the Ormewood Avenue Bridge.

Beautification (5 minutes): NPU-W (SAND, EACA, and GPNA) won the maximum amount from the City of Atlanta’s Community Impact Grant for their Street Sign Topper Proposal, for a total of $6,500 to be shared amongst the separate neighborhood associations.

Communications (2 minutes): Like SAND on Facebook, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter. Please submit any ideas for the newsletter to us.

Treasurer (5 minutes): Amazon Smile / Kroger Rewards. Trolleys available for $45 unpainted.

Education/Schools (5 minutes): APS NEXT: Engaged Community – State of the Clusters: Jackson Cluster meeting is on April 19 at King Middle School on Hill Street at 6:00pm. Zoom option also available.

Social (5 minutes): 2022 Ormewood Park Makers Festival – Saturday June 11. 2022 Ormewood Park Egg Hunt – Saturday April 16 at 4:00pm. 2022 Run with the Wolves 5K and 1-Mile Race – Saturday May 7 at 8:00am.

Transportation (5 minutes): Custer Avenue Traffic Calming Update – Conversations held with Councilmember Winston and concerned neighbors. Council member Winston met on March 28 with ATLDOT to determine what could be done. A study to identify the long-term solution to calm traffic along Custer Avenue. Council member Winston is also introducing legislation for an all-way stop to be added at the intersection of Custer-Woodland, and Custer-Funston.

Land Use and Zoning (LU&Z) (5 minutes per): V-21-51 934 Prospect Ave. Applicant seeks a special exception to allow active recreation in a yard adjacent to street, for construction of a swimming pool. LUZ: Motion to recommend Approval was adopted without opposition, conditional on SAND approval.SAND vote: 9Y-0N-2A. Z-22-11 1355 Funston Street. Applicant requests a major amendment of the property’s existing PD-H zoning for approval of a revised sited plan for 27 residential units, up from 21 units previously approved by its first PD-H rezoning in 2005. 7 conditions proposed by applicant in their request. LUZ: Motion to recommend. Approval was adopted without opposition, conditional on SAND approval with proposed conditions as presented at the April 14 SAND meeting. SAND vote: 7Y-0N-1A. Skyhaven Quarry Project Update – Update from Jesse Clark and Andy Schneggenburger.
