Call to order Welcome new residents and guests – 7:36pm
Introduce SAND governing board
Announcements: Seeking the following positions to be filled: Communication Chair, Woodland Hills Neighborhood Rep. Join as a SAND business member for $50/year! 2019 board election call for candidates – Election will be held in October for the 2019 board. East Confederate Avenue renaming – Ballots have been distributed to those living on the street to select a new name for this street. Trees Atlanta – City of Atlanta providing front yard shade trees to residence via Trees Atlanta. www.treesatlanta.org/freeyardtree. Trees Atlanta provides tons of guidance on all sorts of tree matters. NPU-W Bylaws meeting at 6:00pm on Monday, August 13 at Village Park Church. Support a flashing red light on Custer Avenue? Come to NPU-W Transportation Committee on August 22 at 6:30pm.
Special Guests: Norma V. Nyhoff with Nicholas House | Off the Street, on their Feet: Sleep Out to Support Homeless Families October 5| Monthly Open Door Tour 3rd Saturday of every month, details at www.nicholashouse.org.
Zone 6 (5 minutes) – Lt Crowder, Zone 6 Evening Watch Commander. Citywide crime up 1%, Zone 6 down 10%. Theft from autos remains high, primarily in the overnight hours. LEAVE NOTHING IN YOUR CAR. Request from the body to provide speed enforcement information for Custer Avenue next month. Motion from the body for SAND to request APD to enforce the truck restrictions on city streets within the area and to provide a report next month…. Motion carried unanimously.
City/State/School/Other Elected Officials (5 minutes per): No representation this month.
Beautification (5 minutes): SAND is adopting the Eastwood-Emerson Triangle
Communication (2 minutes): Please let us know if you’re not getting our newsletter. We have a painted trolley contest coming up! We want to see your trolleys and vote on who has the best trolley.
Transportation (5 minutes): Sidewalk committee meeting on Monday, August 13 at 6:00pm at 616 Woodland Avenue. MARTA bus route changes affecting SAND effective August 18. BeltLine Transit Funding/MARTA – Current project plan doesn’t benefit southeast Atlanta/SAND; contact MARTA to provide feedback on this. More MARTA listening session on Wednesday, August 15, 6:00-8:00pm; location hasn’t been announced.
Treasurer (5 minutes): Amazon Smile / Kroger Rewards. Trolleys available for $40 unpainted, $50 painted.
Education/Schools (5 minutes): Benteen Elementary – Dual Language Immersion is here! ½ day in Spanish ½ day in English. Tours of the school available on Mondays. School is looking for sponsors for medicine ball chairs; let Vanessa Sanchez (social chair) know if you are interested. APS calendar survey is currently out; link in SAND newsletter.
Social (5 minutes): Community yard sale on September 22. Signups will be available soon. SAND will have a map with everyone participating. Questions? Email Vanessa at social@sandatlanta.org. $15/house to be listed on our map. Interested in hosting a social hour for SAND at your home? Let us know!
Public Safety (5 minutes): Change of Agent – 1362 Boulevard – Citgo – SAND motion to approve change of agent unanimously. Electric scooter/bike ordinance pending within the city. APD pay study in, will cost $24 million to increase salaries, about $12 million for AFD.
Land Use and Zoning (LU&Z) (5 minutes per): V-15-218 – 895 Eden Avenue – Variance to construct a shed and room and deck addition to existing single family home. LUZ voted unanimously to approve. SAND voted to approve unanimously. Z-18-085 – 1529 Elleby Road– Application to rezone from R-4 to R-4A to allow for subsequent subdivision to allow construction of two new detached single-family dwellings. LUZ voted to approve 4-2-4. SAND voted to approve 7-0-1
