SAND Meeting Minutes – Thursday, August 11, 2022

Announcements (5 minutes): Voting rights (3 meetings, or $10 membership). CMG Neighborhood Renaming Update: Virtual town hall on this issue will be announced soon. Planning to present a request for funds at the next SAND meeting.

Beautification (5 minutes): Sign Topper Update – New Toppers for Benteen Park, Boulevard Heights, North Ormewood, Ormewood, and Woodland Hills will be available to be adopted/sponsored in the coming weeks. CMG toppers will be available in 2023 once the neighborhood renaming effort is completed.

Communications (2 minutes): Like SAND on Facebook, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter. Please submit any ideas for the newsletter to us.

Treasurer (5 minutes): Amazon Smile/Kroger Rewards; Trolleys available for $45 unpainted.

Social (5 minutes): 2022 Ormewood Park Makers Fest Recap – Net Revenue of approximately $15K. Some revenue will be set aside for SAND operating expense reserves, and some revenue to be set aside for future Makers Festival reserves. Looking for ideas on how to spend the balance of the revenue.

Public Safety (5 minutes): APS is accepting applications for Class #41 of the Atlanta Police Citizen’s Police Academy. The Academy takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm-9:00pm, 9/6-10/25. The deadline to receive applications is 8/29.

Transportation (5 minutes): New pilot for the Kroger/Chick-Fil-A plaza at the intersection of Bill Kennedy Way and Faith Avenue SE began on 8/8 making the entrance into the plaza a one-way only for both lanes. The pilot is scheduled to end on 9/9. The Southside Trail Segments 4 and 5 (Glenwood to Boulevard) have moved into the shovel-ready phase of work. An Invitation to Bid is currently scheduled for mid August with a construction start expected in late October or early November.

Land Use and Zoning (LU&Z) (5 minutes per): V-22-110 / 1042 Sanders Avenue – Applicant seeks a variance to reduce the east yard setback from 7ft to 3ft, and reduce the rear yard setback from 15ft to 5ft for, to construct a detached garage. LUZ: Motion to recommend approval with condition 10Y-7N-0A. SAND: Approved motion from LUZ 4Y-2N-1A.  Z-22-36 (706/708 McDonough Blvd) – Applicant seeks to change the zoning designation from the current R-4 to MR-4B in order to construct 36 townhomes. LUZ: Motion to recommend approval with conditions 13Y-1N-1A. SAND: Approved motion from LUZ 6Y-0N-2A. CDP-22-26 (706/708 McDonough Blvd) – Land Use amendment paired with Z-22-36 for land use change from the designation Single Family Residential (SFR) to High Density Residential (HDR). LUZ: Motion to recommend approval 13Y-1N-1A. SAND: Approved motion from LUZ 6Y-0N-2A.
