SAND Meeting Minutes – May 12, 2022

Announcements (5 minutes): Voting rights (3 meetings, or $10 membership).

City/State/School/Other Elected Officials (5 minutes per): Yasamin Khorashahi from Council member Bakhtiari’s office: Notes from the Glenwood Town Hall: https://mailchi.mp/lilianaforatlanta/glenwood-town-hall-summary. Check out our website if you haven’t already: www.district5atl.com. Legislated 4-way stop at Glenwood and Hemlock with Councilmember Winston, and that is forthcoming. Working on trying to fit into budget the sidewalk improvements and speed bumps on Faith Avenue.

Special Guests (5 minutes per): Nina Gentry spoke about City Utilities work session on the proposed increases on sanitary fees and reported on this to those in attendance. 1 option has fee based on size of home. 1 option on special services coming out of general fund. 1 option based on value of your home/tax bill Beautification (5 minutes). Street Sign Toppers: Presentation from Treasurer Brent Huff. NPU-W received max CIG grant of $6,500. Will be split amongst SAND, EACA, and GPNA. SAND will use its portion to kickstart a sign topper program for SAND. The plan is to design unique topper for each SAND neighborhood, buy as many toppers as possible with grant money, place them strategically around SAND, and then set up a Neighborhood Adopt-A-Sign Topper Program (modeling what Reynoldstown did to great success).

Treasurer (5 minutes): Amazon Smile / Kroger Rewards. Trolleys are available for $45 unpainted.

Social (5 minutes): 2022 Ormewood Park Makers Festival – Saturday, June 11. Please sign up for workshops or sign up to volunteer.

Land Use and Zoning (LU&Z) (5 minutes per): Update on SAP-22-10 (Moreland Plaza Mall) – Revised Plan Submitted to City The applicant group has submitted a revised site plan to City Planning based on comments provided by NPU-W the City, and the Atlanta Regional Commission. NPU-W LUZ will be supplying a second round of official comments to City Planning in May, we also ask that all stakeholders review the revised plan. NPU-W is putting comments together for the city to review before the ARC, comments are going out by Monday. Send to LUZ email address for NPU-W. Rezoning of 706/708 McDonough Blvd. Bill Scaffidi plans on meeting with Benteen Park neighbors on behalf of the applicant. Skyhaven Quarry: Jesse and Andy presented on their plans for the property.
