SAND Meeting Minutes – August 11, 2016

Call to order 7:45pm
Zone 6 Update

  • Overall 14% decrease in crime against same time last year
  • Majority of crime reported is for car break-ins and entering
  • Arrest was made for the carjacking at Citgo. Suspect was a local juvenile.

City/State/School/Other Elected Officials
Sheryl Bennet of Carla Smiths (District 1 Council Representative) Office

  • Active shooter presentations, sign up on Carla’s website of FB page
    • September 13 (250 Georgia Avenue); October 20 (215 Lakewood Way)
  • City of Atlanta 911 Center Tour September 14 and October 6
    • 180 Peachtree Street (formerly Macy’s) or transportation available from City Hall

Land Use and Zoning (LU&Z)
V-16-143 1040 Lester Avenue

  • Owner requested support for a variance increasing the width of a parking pad from 20 feet to 30 feet and allow paved area of driveway to exceed one-third of required front yard to allow a parking pad where it is otherwise not allowed)
    • Vote: Yes=14; No=5; Abstain= 0
  • Presentation from Eric Kronberg on possible redevelopment of Berne Street lot currently owned by Beulah Heights University
  • Main concerns from members
    • water and run-off issues in proximity to Glenwood Green
    • Density and integrity in relationship to the existing neighborhood
  • Additional discussion at the land Use and Zoning meeting on September 6
  • Vote held at SAND Meeting on September 8 (voting eligibility required)
  • Vote held at NPU-W on September 28 (voting eligibility required)

Transportation-Bob Titus

  • Safe Routes to Schools- passed in SAND and NPU-W
  • Plans are acquired for Moreland Avenue and Glenwood Avenue realignment; hopes to get GDOT approval this month. Construction tentatively begins mid-2017 and will last about 18mos.

Webmaster

  • Looking for contributors for the website as well as someone to help administrate the website and newsletter (1-2 hours a month). Contact Vice President with your interest.

Treasurer

  • No reported change

New Business

  • Voted to increase insurance from a directors and officers only policy to a general liability policy- $850 per year to include covering special events, liquor liability, rider policy
  • Vote: Yes=Unanimous
