Save The Old Atlanta Prison Farm (STOAPF) hosted another successful event in their efforts to preserve the largest green space inside the perimeter. On April 22, a group of local residents gathered to celebrate Earth Day at El Mexicano Restaurant, just north of the Old Atlanta Prison Farm. While enjoying some tasty food and beverages, STOAPF advocates shared stories, information and ideas about the cause that brought them together.
Dekalb County commissioner Jeff Rader attended the event and thoughtfully answered many questions about how to secure the future of the Prison Farm property for public benefit. Dekalb County has millions of dollars in county-wide bond money allotted for public parks and will be meeting soon to decide how to spend the remaining funds. STOAPF is pushing for Dekalb County to use a portion of the money to acquire the property from the City of Atlanta and establish a beautiful park in this traditionally under-served area. Rader encouraged advocates to contact Commissioner Larry Johnson and express their desire for the Prison Farm property to be made into a park for the community.
