Parkside Makes Big Gains on State CCRPI Measure

By Rebecca Wallace
The recently released results of the state’s College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) are outstanding for Parkside Elementary. A great indicator of a school’s annual performance, particularly its improvements, the Georgia Department of Education released the 2015 CCRPI results on May 3. Parkside earned a score of 69.3, which is the highest ever for the Title 1 school, and 9.4 points over the previous year’s score.
But to better understand what the score means, Atlanta Public Schools published a report on its data blog, apsgraphs.blogspot.com, comparing APS schools with the rest of the state regarding the CCRPI. Parkside’s progress score for 2015 is in the 91st percentile for the state.
“I’m so proud of our entire school family,” said Parkside Principal Caitlin Sims. “We serve a diverse population of learners at Parkside and it is so rewarding to see the hard work of our teachers, the involvement of our parents, and the support of our community paying off in increasing student success. Our students continually amaze and impress us in so many ways and we are very proud of their growth.”
Indeed the whole Jackson Cluster has a lot to be proud of. “Parkside’s increase of nearly 10 points is almost unheard of in one year,” said Atlanta Board of Education District 1 representative, Leslie Grant. “That, together with Maynard Jackson earning the highest increase of all high schools in the district (GO JAGS!) and Toomer and Benteen – also Jackson feeder schools – making enough gains to come off the state’s proposed “takeover” list, is all fantastic news for our cluster.”
Located in Grant Park, Parkside also serves families in Summerhill, Boulevard Heights, Ormewood Park, and Cabbagetown. The school provides varied support services including Gifted and Talented, Special Education, and ESOL, as well as an IB Specialist that is shared with Toomer. The IB Specialist will support Parkside in its journey toward becoming an IB candidate school.
