Neighbor in Need East Atlanta Presents: The Greatest Show in EAV

By Carlen Hultgren
Neighbor in Need East Atlanta, a nonprofit dedicated to helping senior citizens on limited or fixed incomes with emergency home repairs, has announced one of its more festive, annual fundraising events. The Greatest Show in EAV: Neighbor in Need Circus Gala Charity Fundraiser, is slated for Saturday, October 21, at the Flat Shoals Farmhouse, located at 749 Flat Shoals Avenue in East Atlanta. The event will be co-hosted by the East Atlanta Community Association (EACA), a neighborhood group dedicated to the continued vitality and prosperity of the historic East Atlanta Village.
Plan for a night under the big top with host Bill Gould, a longtime East Atlanta resident and partner in the community’s Save Ormewood Forest campaign. The Greatest Show in EAV will feature vintage circus performances, live music, raffle prizes, and other entertainment you might find under a circus tent, such as jugglers and tarot card readers. The gala will offer a variety of culinary delights, including signature dishes and cocktails, as well as cotton candy and popcorn for the less refined palate.
“Our gala is a special event designed to bring the entire community out for a night of fun and revelry, but it’s for a very serious cause, too,” said Nancy Carpenter, Neighbor in Need East Atlanta’s co-chair. “East Atlanta is committed to helping our seniors, many of whom have been integral to the building of our community and helping to shape its character. Neighbor in Need East Atlanta is the community’s effort at ensuring our seniors get the help with home repairs that they need.”
Tickets for the event come at two levels. General admission is $50 and includes three drinks (beer, wine, or cocktail), unlimited food, and entry at 8:00pm until 11:00pm, as well as music, a vintage circus performance, and more. VIP Admission is $100 and includes unlimited drinks, VIP reception, unlimited food, and early entry at 7:00pm to 11:00pm. It also includes exclusive music and entertainment, a VIP vintage circus performance, and more. Tickets are on sale at eaca.net, Neighbor in Need East Atlanta on Facebook, and every Thursday at the East Atlanta Farmers Market. Volunteers also are needed. Those wishing to help in the gala planning may send an email to nancy.carpenter1@gmail.com.
Since its inception, Neighbor in Need East Atlanta has completed more than 160 repair jobs in the community. Those projects are valued at more than $138,000. Neighbor in Need East Atlanta started off this year with $28,237 and has already completed more than $21,000 in home repairs in 26 projects, with more projects awaiting consideration. Neighbor in Need East Atlanta intends to meet these challenges, with a goal of raising $25,000 through sponsorships and ticket sales.
