Make Sure You Can Vote in November

By Henry Bryant

Many people have been purged from the voter rolls since the last big election. Many others have been gerrymandered into new districts or precincts. Find out if you will be turned away from your usual voting place before the October 7 registration deadline.

Whether you live in Fulton or Dekalb you can do that by going to the My Voter Page (MVP) website at https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/. Once at the site, you will need to know the first initial of the name you are registered under (first name? nickname? middle name?), your last name, county, and date of birth. It will pull up your official record including registration status, mail-in and ballot status, poll location, early voting locations, and elected officials. You can also see the registration info on file with the county, a sample ballot for the coming election and your provisional ballot status.

Absentee ballots must be applied for before October 24, but with the state of the postal service, you might want to do that before the deadline. You can also register to vote, or change your registration at the My Voter Page site.

The MVP site is managed by the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. If you encounter any problems before or when you go to vote, you can get help from the Georgia Voter Protection Hotline at 1-888-730-5816. Don’t forget to take an up-to-date photo ID with you to vote. It should match the information on your My Voter Page. If you don’t have that, the poll workers cannot let you in.
