Local Gym Changes Ownership

By Elizabeth Harris
CrossFit Downtown Atlanta has completed its purchase of CrossFit On the Move, establishing Atlanta Barbell in the downtown area. This acquisition by husband and wife team Jim and Anya Chambers includes the former CrossFit On the Move location in Grant Park, as well as a second facility in Alpharetta. “I was thrilled to find a CrossFit facility in Atlanta where I could expand my fitness business,” said Jim Chambers.
“Atlanta is where we want to raise our children, as well as bring our fitness philosophy and expertise. It was the perfect fit,” added co-owner Anya Chambers.
Acquired in April 2012, the new owners have invested in the gym’s infrastructure and staff. This investment includes expanded member services, enhanced class offerings, specialty seminars, staff member additions, and a proposed facility expansion. “Bringing my vision to fruition at the Grant Park location is a priority,” said Jim. He further added how enhancing and broadening the business will allow him to influence more people to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.
Both owners have extensive knowledge of the industry adding a global perspective to their training techniques. Jim, a lifelong athlete, coached college-level baseball; acted as a private strength and conditioning coach in New York and Russia; and founded Railroad CrossFit in Hudson, New York.  Anya, a native of Russia, coached members at Railroad CrossFit, a gym she co-founded with her husband.
