Local AKA Chapter to Host 26th Annual Mother-Daughter Luncheon

Pearls of Purpose Foundation, Inc., the philanthropic arm of Nu Lambda Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., hosted its 26th Annual Pink Pearl Mother-Daughter Luncheon on Saturday, May 4 at 12:00pm at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel, 265 Peachtree Center Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30303. The luncheon is the Foundation’s signature fundraising event that awards $25,000 in college scholarships to high school students from Fulton County and Atlanta Public Schools. The luncheon also honors outstanding women in the community. With the theme “A New Generation of Excellence…Carrying on the Legacy,” the 2013 honorees are: Andrea L. Boone, Commissioner of Constituent Services, City of Atlanta; Lynn K. Hampton, Founder and CEO of Impact Athletics; Laurita Deayon Kelly-Aguebor, multi-million dollar real estate broker; Elisabeth Omilami, CEO and President of Hosea Williams Feed The Hungry and Homeless; and Jessica Cooke Scarborough, attorney, finance, and real estate associate.
The Ethel Hedgeman Lyle President’s Award was given to Dr. Lucretia Payton-Stewart, retired educator and 13th South Atlantic Regional Director, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Past luncheon honorees include philanthropist Billye Aaron, gospel recording artist Yolanda Adams, playwright Pearl Cleage, and renowned surgeon Dr. Rogsbert F. Phillips, as well as numerous other female leaders in religion, business, medicine, education, and civil rights.
WSB-TV Channel 2’s Erica Byfield served as mistress of ceremonies for the luncheon and entertainment was be provided by InFinesse featuring saxophonist Reginald Harris. The event also included a shopping bazaar.
