Maynard H. Jackson High School’s track team earned third place through strong finishes in multiple events at the Regional Meet at Lakewood Stadium on April 23.
Led by senior sprinter and triple jumper Bryce Mines, the team solidified the third-place finish and a stand-out year in Georgia track with Mines’ outstanding run of 49.09-second 400-meter race. Mines has recently committed to Virginia Tech for the triple jump and is ranked second in the state for the event.
Maynard Jackson’s performance booked them a ticket to the state championship. The school’s best events include the 200, 400, and 800-meter races.
Team members report morale is at an all-time high this season, and the team is ready to give their all in every event at the state meet in mid-May. Mason Rhodes, head coach of the program, said, “We still have a long way to go. Half of the team hasn’t even seen a state championship ring, so everyone needs to lock in.”
