Illumine Shines at Oakland this April

By Angie Wynne

Historic Oakland Foundation invites its neighbors to attend Illumine 2023 starting April 27. Illumine, HOF’s annual after-dark arts event, returns to Oakland Cemetery with all-new artistic installations set against the inspiring backdrop of Atlanta’s glittering skyline.

Illumine 2023 will shine a light on Oakland’s magnificent arboretum, exploring Oakland’s trees’ environmental, historical, social, and cultural significance.

As the sun sets and the Cemetery is transformed by light, shadow, texture, and sound, explore Oakland’s North Public Grounds, Bell Tower Ridge, and historic African American Burial Grounds. Experience thematic art installations by Dorothy O’Connor, Gavin Bernard. Brooks Garcia, Ricardo Martinez, and Cooper Sanchez. Attendees will also enjoy live musical performances by Okorie Johnson, Veronika Jackson, and The Shoal Creek Stranglers; drinks; and an Oakland pop-up shop.

Want to experience Illumine from the comfort of Oakland’s newly renovated Bell Tower? The all-new Illumine VIP experience includes exclusive access to the Bell Tower, complimentary sweet treats and drinks, and fun glow-in-the-dark accessories.

Illumine 2022 runs from April 27 through 30 and from May 4 through 7 from 7:30pm to 10:30pm. Advance tickets are on sale now at www.Eventbrite.com. Tickets will also be available at the gate. Learn more at www.oaklandcemetery.com/illumine.
