Thanks to the Atlanta Local Food Initiative Orchard Project, your community orchard at Ecosystem Farm is emerging. Several trees were received and planted last month. This is a great start to the orchard, but there’s space for a lot more trees, including the 30 or so types of fruit that neighbors came up with when asked what they wanted to see growing.
How to go from these first trees to the full vision of an orchard open for anyone in the neighborhood to pick from and learn in? The farm has applied for some grants but are hoping for support from you too. Would you be willing to cover the cost of a tree, vine, or berry bush to be planted in this community orchard?
Head to http://bit.ly/your-orchard to see the list of trees, vines, and bushes that have been curated during conversations with neighbors. Research has been conducted to find the best prices and varieties, and the list is grouped by source. Once donations have been received to cover an order from each source, the farm will order the plants and take care of the shipping or delivery. The farm will let participants and the neighbors know when it’s time for another planting, thanks to the people contributing to the future of their community.
