By Robert Selby, President, Grant Park Neighborhood Association

Grant Park’s tree-lined streets and historic charm are the result of thoughtful planning that started over 140 years ago. As Atlanta rapidly grows, it’s our turn to shape the future. How do we ensure that our neighborhood remains a safe, vibrant, and connected place for the next generation?
The answer lies in a shared vision. This month marks the beginning of a year-long initiative: the Grant Park Transportation Vision 2036.
By aligning our objectives across the neighborhood and NPU-W (our greater neighborhood planning unit within the City of Atlanta), we can build a unified playbook for our future. This proactive approach means that when city projects arise, or new funding becomes available, we won’t be reactionary. Instead, we will be ready to speak with one strong, consistent voice to advocate for the improvements our community wants and needs.
Imagine Grant Park ten years from now: a neighborhood where public safety is the cornerstone. Picture enhanced walkability, where sidewalks and highly visible crosswalks make a stroll safer than ever. Imagine a modernized, protected bike network with an infrastructure that comfortably accommodates both traditional cyclists and e-bikes.
To build Vision 2036, we need to think BIG: How do we integrate seamlessly with the Atlanta Beltline and champion the future of transit on the Beltline’s Southside Trail? How can we creatively reimagine Grant Park’s historic alleys? How do we actively manage traffic on our roads, curb dangerous cut-through traffic, and even prepare our infrastructure for the rapid adoption of autonomous vehicles (robotaxis)?
These are BIG questions, and the Transportation Vision won’t build itself; it requires your voice. Whether you are a daily commuter, a weekend cyclist, or a parent pushing a stroller, your perspective is what will make this plan authentic to Grant Park.
We invite everyone to join the joint NPU-W/GPNA Transportation Committees as we embark on this vital, year-long journey. Let’s dream BIG together and ensure the paths we pave today lead to a thriving, beautifully connected Grant Park for decades to come.
Get involved! Join our monthly visioning sessions and help shape the future of how we move.
