Grant Park Summer Shade Festival Returns

By Caitlin Kreidler

The Grant Park Summer Shade Festival returns for its 17th year on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25. The event is an annual fundraiser for the Grant Park Conservancy (GPC), a nonprofit, membership-based organization committed to the restoration, renovation, beautification, and maintenance of historic Grant Park.

The festival will once again feature two days of outdoor fun planned for all ages including a 5K “Run for the Park,” food trucks, craft beer, an entertaining Kids Zone, and a music lineup that just gets better every year. This year’s event will be presented by The Beacon Atlanta.

Festival hours will run from 10:00am to 10:00pm on Saturday and from 11:00am to 7:30pm on Sunday. A parking lot is available off Cherokee Avenue and there is street parking along Cherokee and Atlanta avenues, and Berne and Sydney streets. There will also be bike racks available for cyclists attending the event. Bikes can be parked for free courtesy of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition.

On Saturday morning at 8:00am, runners, walkers, and strollers are invited to take part in the annual Adams Realtors “Run for the Park” 5K, which includes a free kid’s “Tot Trot” for ages five and under and a “Stroller Stroll” along the race course. All races will start and finish at the main entrance to Zoo Atlanta. Pre-registration is available at www.summershadefestival.org or www.active.com or onsite at 7:00am.
