Grant Park Conservancy Sponsors a Lantern Parade

By Marie Mower
Absolutely everyone is invited to march in the Grant Park Conservancy’s Halloween Lantern Parade on October 27. All good dogs on leash are invited too. Make a Jack-o-Lantern or a ghost lantern in one of the free workshops, wear your Halloween costume, and enjoy a magical and musical nighttime stroll in the park! The best place to see the parade is to be in the parade…although a candlelight picnic to watch the parade would make for an enchanted evening.
We will muster at the Gazebo inside Grant Park at 6:30pm to step off at 7:30pm and wind through the Park with the Black Sheep Marching Band alongside giant skeleton puppets. The Grant Park Conservancy partnered with Chantelle Rytter, Captain of the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons, the brilliant leader in lantern parades throughout Atlanta. Her team will provide lantern-making instructions through the month of October. Details at www.gpconservancy.org and see the Grant Park Conservancy’s Facebook page.
Before the lantern parade is the beloved Grant Park Parent’s Network children’s parade. The kids will gather at Milledge Fountain to end at the gazebo with a costume contest. Prize tickets provided by the Center for Puppetry Arts, Atlanta, GA. The fun does not stop there! Families are highly encouraged to participate in both parades by lingering with a picnic dinner and watching the Georgia Bubbleman entertain 5:30pm – 6:30pm. More info is available at www.grantparkparents.org.
