The beauty of Grant Park is no brighter than during the Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes, coming up on Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11. Unique to many other local home tours, this one is held in the evening with the warm glow of candles and holiday lights. It’s become a favorite “must-do” event to see another side of one of Atlanta’s finest historic neighborhoods and get into the holiday spirit with neighbors, friends, and family.
What’s new this year? A few things, but most noticeable for regular tour goers is that after more than three decades, the tour collateral is getting a new look.
“We’re excited to announce that this year, the Candlelight Tour has a new logo and web site,” said tour co-chair Jeff McCord. “We’re giving this traditional and nearly iconic event a brand re-fresh, and we hope it will draw even more guests.”
Each year, the Candlelight Tour features eight to ten homes, usually representing historic preservation and innovative renovations, as well as new homes built to reflect the character and style of the historic district. Additionally, the 2016 tour will feature not one, but three Grant Park churches – Saint John the Wonderworker, Park Avenue Baptist and St. Paul United Methodist Church, which always serves as the tour start. Back on the tour this year by popular demand will be the stunning Burns Mansion, the restored 1868 Queen Anne Victorian home with eleven fireplaces, seven porches and over 30 rooms – two of which will be freshly renovated just in time for the tour.
St. Paul also hosts the annual Artists’ Market, which is free and will be expanded this year to include even more beautiful and unique gift items and a bake sale featuring goodies from The Cake Hag. Other favorite tour extras include a free concert by the St. Paul Choir and the annual Winter Wonderland Children’s Celebration sponsored by the Grant Park Parents Network, complete with a visit from Santa Claus.
For families that would rather keep the home tour itself “adults only,” childcare for tour guests and volunteers will be offered at the Grant Park Cooperative Preschool on both evenings of the tour from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. On Saturday night only, a special partnership with tour sponsor Intown Stars Gymnastics on DeKalb Ave. offers a fun alternative for the kids. For $70, the Intown Stars package comes with two tour tickets and one child’s fees for what’s sure to be a fun time at the gym. Additional children can be included in the package for $20 each. All details can be found on www.CandlelightTourofHomes.com.
Tickets for the tour are $20 each when purchased in advance at www.CandlelightTourofHomes.com and $25 each when purchased at the event. In addition to our business sponsors, anyone can “be an angel” for the Candlelight Tour this year. Angel Sponsors donating $1 or more will get an angel sticker to wear on the tour. A special VIP ticket package is also in the works, so look for more details on the tour ‘s website and Facebook page.
The Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes could not happen were it not for our generous and supportive sponsors – Floor and Decor, Dakota Blue, The Cake Hag, Intown Stars Gymnastics, and Diane Hewitt Design International. As always, the proceeds from this event benefit three Grant Park community organizations: St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Grant Park Parents Network, and the Grant Park Cooperative Preschool. Mark your calendars and don’t miss this unique and wonderful charity event.
