GPNA Meeting Minutes – Tuesday, January 16, 2024

Call to Order–7:30pm.

President’s Introduction. 2024 Steering Committee Introductions: Lauren Watt – Secretary, Sky Hassan – Land Use & Zoning, Loyal Charles – Public Safety, Nate Cook – Economic Development, John Sitton – Homes & History, Approval of Technology Chair Nomination, Ariel Jordan. Ariel was approved without opposition. Renomination of Legacy Neighbors Chair, Carl Rowland. Neighborhood will vote on the renomination of Carl in the February meeting. Nomination of Vice President, Troy Bell. Neighborhood will vote on Troy’s nomination in the February meeting. 2024 Steering Committee Vacancies – Open positions are: Treasurer, Fundraising Chair, Transportation Chair, & Philanthropic Chair.

Financial Updates: The 2023 year income statement can be found in the Google folder.

Filming Street Closure – Hill Street (1/16-1/23): 1/16-1/17 from 7:00am until 7:00pm, 1/18-1/20 from 7:00am until 2:00am, 1/22-1/23 from 7:00am until 7:00pm, Number of crew (including cast): 150. GPNA received a film impact donation.

Public Official Update

Council Member is the new Community Development & Human Services Committee (CDHS) chair, overseeing Beltline and Invest Atlanta. The Council approved $1M for eBikes. 999 Grant Street – Hoping to start work on that sidewalk this month. Committee Updates

Item One – Public Safety: APD Zone 6 & Fire Station 10 Update. Recent updates from Public Safety committee: Glenwood Kroger has applied for a change of agent. NPU-W did OK that pending final approval. Oakland Cemetery application that was deferred until the next NPU-W meeting.

Item Two – Transportation: Committee Updates. BeltLine: Stakeholder Roundtable Discussion to Shape Transit Along the BeltLine – 1/22. BeltLine Transit Study: Will look to solidify the preferred station locations and corridor cross-section in the southwest and southeast quadrants of the Atlanta BeltLine. Construction updates: https://beltline.org/2023/12/26/atlanta-beltline-design-and-construction-updates-december-2023. Woodward Avenue: Contractor started repaving this past Monday, 1/15. This should conclude after a few weeks, pending any weather challenges. Community Impact Grant: Pedestrian Map & Wayfinding Project – 2/29 deadline. Goal of highlighting safe routes and fun or helpful destinations in and throughout our NPU-W neighborhoods (Ormewood Park, Boulevard Heights, Woodland Hills, Benteen Park, Custer/McDonough/Guice, East Atlanta). Item Three – LUZ: Upcoming for NPU-W February’s agenda; will be reviewed at GPLUZ on January 25. 23-O-1520/Z-23-87 – Citywide: City Ordinance to require a Special Use Permit when constructing a single family dwelling with fewer than 750 sq/ft, that is used as a primary structure. U-24-002 – 1015 Grant Street: Special Use Permit application to use existing space as a private club. V-24-007 – 335 Atlanta Avenue. In the next few weeks, expecting the language for the Atlanta Zoning 2.0 rewrites. The city’s goal is to put the new zoning in force late 2025. This will completely rewrite the zoning for the city, massively informing things like affordable housing availability and viability. More information will be provided as available.

Item Four – Homes & History: Call for Committee Involvement – Upcoming committee meetings can be found on the GPNA Calendar. The Design Regulations Process will be discussed at the next meeting, including best steps for moving forward. The goal is to have something reviewable by the general GPNA body later in 2024. Anyone interested in joining the mailing list to receive documents associated with projects and proposals, email John Sitton at historic@gpna.org. Three projects that will be discussed at the upcoming AUDC meeting: 378 Grant Park Place, 779 Lynwood Avenue, 539 Robinson Avenue.

Item Five – Technology: Call for Committee Involvement. GPNA’s goal is to uncover ways to better highlight the community and showcase that in a meaningful way. More to come!

Item Six – Economic Development: Call for Committee Involvement, 5K Race Planning. First committee meeting occurred on 1/7; awaiting updates from the Beacon on timing and whether Spring or Fall would be better. Once we hear from the BEacon, there will be more regular committee meetings. Anyone interested in volunteering time, money or skills can reach out to Nate Cook at economic@gpna.org
