GPNA Meeting Minutes, January 2014

President, Lauren Rocereta

  • Welcomed everyone, explained the agenda and open floor rules, and voting eligibility
  • Thank you to the zoo for allowing the use of the building
  • Next meeting is Tuesday, February, 17, 2014 at 7:30pm
  • §  New member welcome and introductions
  • 2014 Proposed Budget approved unanimously
  • §  Welcomed Reverend Houston Wheeler from the Faith Collaborative: Neighbors Helping Neighbors
  • Collaborative attempts to list all services available to neighbors in need
  • Volunteers are invited and welcome to help neighbors locate the organization/group that provides help

Vice President, Jeff Rogers

  • Passed around sign-up and volunteer sheet, make sure info is correct
  • §  Advised new members to check in or sign in.
  • §  A 2014 Bylaws & Mission Statement Sub Committee will be created
  • Volunteers are needed to help create welcome packets for new neighbors

Treasurer, Michelle Botwinick

  • §  Updated Treasurer’s report
  • §  Review of 2013 budget
  • Reminder that sunbursts can be ordered online at www.gpna.org
  • Only unexpected expense was $2500 to Smart Growth Atlanta

Secretary, Kristin Andris

  • Minutes from December 2014 meeting were presented

Public Safety Chair, Chris Newman

  • §  Zone 6 update
    • Keep cars clean and do not leave cars running while unattended to avoid theft

  • Parking concerns can be addressed by calling Community Liaison Dept of APD: (404) 546-5650 or (404) 546-2605

  • School Updates
    • ANCS has been selected by the Georgia Charter Schools Association as a finalist for “charter school of the year.”
    • ANCS Elementary Campus Information Sessions for Prospective Students/Families on Thursday, February 20, 6:30 PM
    • ANCS Annual Auction, the Wonderball, to be held March 8. Click here for more info.
    • Parkside Open House for Prospective K-5 parents on Wednesday, January 29th at 9 a.m
    • King is offering parent workshops and student programs.  Volunteers needed
    • Maynard Jackson tours are being offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.  Please call the school at (404) 802-5200 or the Parent Center at (404) 802-5521 a few days in advance to schedule the tour.
    • Maynard Jackson Winter Dance Concert on February 27 & 28
    • Jackson Cluster K-8 Community Meetings: Thursday, January 23, 2014 and Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Maynard Jackson High School at 6 pm

 

  • Neighborhood Events Update

 

    • Pajamas & Puppets is 2nd Thursday of each month from November through April. 5:45 pm, Park Ave Church
    • GPPN Pre-K and Kindergarten Community Forum – January 28, 7 pm, Park Avenue Baptist Church
    • A new playgroup for children born September 2013 to February 2014 is forming right now. Please go to the Playgroups tab at www.grantparkparents.org

Economic Development Committee Chair, Rob Bernier

  • SEABA Lunch: Thursday, 1/23/14, noon, Zoo Atlanta Ford Conference Center, $12

Fundraising Chair, Kelly Tenedini

  • §  Welcomed Abbi Rebenek and Paul Simo to discuss 2014 Tour of Homes
  • Theme will be “A Stroll Through History”

Land Use and Zoning Committee Chair, Rick Hudson

  • §  More developments are coming to area
  • §  800 Glenwood legal battles continue

Historic Committee Chair, Paul Simo

  • §  Efforts will begin to rewrite historic design regulations
  • §  Chair has binders with Grant Park history from 1980s
  • §  Contact historic chair if you would like to join “Friends of Cyclorama” and work to keep cyclorama in Grant Park
  • §  Decatur Old House Fair will be held February 8 from 9 am to 4 pm. Good source of info for old houses

Technology Committee Chair, Stephanie Warner

  • Oliver Beaudreaux will manage GPNA twitter.  Follow GPNA @GrantParkGPNA
  • §  Committee is working to create videos that tell Grant Park stories

Parks & Recreation Chair, Marie Mower

  • Welcomed Samantha of Atlanta Youth Soccer Organization
  • All youth are welcome.  Registration is every 2nd & 4th Saturday through Feb. Held at Boulevard Crossing Park

  • §  Suggestion for subcommittee to discuss parking issues
  • §  150th Anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta is approaching; events to be held
