GPNA Meeting Minutes – January 19, 2016

President, Lauren Rocereta: Welcomed everyone, explained the agenda and open floor rules, and voting eligibility. Thank you to Zoo Atlanta for allowing the use of the building for the meeting. Next meeting is Tuesday, February 16 at 7:30pm. New member welcome and introductions.
State Representative Margaret Kaiser: Legislative Update. City Council Member Andre Dickens: Introduction. City Council Member Carla Smith: Update. She has been assigned to the following committees: Transportation, Zoning, and Public Safety. Overview of Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHARM). Streets Alive is coming to neighborhood on Sunday, April 17 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Heather Luyk & Keisa Bruce: Overview of Atlanta Streets Alive. Stephanie Warner: Ormond-Grant Park Update—Fun Bunny Fundraiser –  $37.50 for Fun Bunny to hide eggs or deliver a basket on Easter weekend. Proceeds support Ormond-Grant Park. Grant Park Conservancy Update: David Dreyer. Conservancy has received a $95,000 grant to begin restoration of Milledge Fountain. GPPN Update, Holly Wilhelm. Pre-K and Kindergarten forum on Tuesday, January 26. Vice President, Jeffrey Rogers: Passed around sign-up and volunteer sheet, make sure info is correct. Advised new members to check in or sign in. Economic Development Committee Chair, Rob Bernier: Grant Park Gathering, February 25, Bada Bings. Public Safety Committee Chair, Chris Newman: You can volunteer for neighborhood watch by emailing brad.nevin@gmail.com. Remember to register your security alarm every year with Cry Wolf. Zone 6 Community Prosecutor – Keith Lamar, keith.lamar@fultoncountyga.gov. Update on recent and upcoming trials. Follow Court Watch to see how you can advocate for your community’s safety at trials. Zone 6 APD update – Lt. Floyd, Zone 6. Main crime is vehicle break-ins, keep your car clean to help minimize those incidences. Don’t be distracted by electronics. Don’t leave your car running unattended to warm it up in the mornings. Call police if you see anything suspicious. Transportation, Jim Vorix: On February 4, there will be a meeting to discuss Safe Routes for Schools. Land Use and Zoning, Rick Hudson: Ormewood Avenue rezoning – Motion approved with one opposed.
Fundraising: 2016 Annual Sponsorships are available. Evening at the Mansion fundraiser is on February 28. Volunteers are needed. Technology: Sign up at gpna.org and follow us on Facebook. Homes & History. New Certificates of Appropriateness (COAs). Historic Design Regulations Rewrite Update. Meeting minutes from December 2015 approved. Open Floor Discussion: Community Garden has plots for rent and volunteers are welcome to help grow food for local charities. Three upcoming orientations to learn more. Volunteer training for Oakland Cemetery is January 23.
