GPNA Meeting Minutes – August 2015

President, Lauren Rocereta: Welcomed everyone, explained the agenda and open floor rules, and voting eligibiliy. Thank you to Zoo Atlanta for allowing the use of the building for the meeting. Next meeting is Tuesday, September 15 at 7:30pm. New member welcome and introductions. Ormond Grant Park is being renovated. Group is seeking donations. http://grantpark.org/ogp. Grant Park Recreation Center, Travis Johnson, 404-624-0697. Memberships are available. Open to suggestions on new programs. Erica Nimmons, King Middle School. King is looking to offer an International Baccalaureate program. Update on merge with Cohen. Rebekah Goode-Peoples nominated as Porch Press Grant Park representative – Motion to support approved unanimously. David Dreyer, Grant Park Conservancy Update: Summer Shade Festival, August 29-30. Vice President, Jeffrey Rogers: Passed around sign-up and volunteer sheet, make sure info is correct. Advised new members to check in or sign in. If you have a GPNA meeting reminder yard sign, please email Jeffrey at vicepresident@gpna.org.
Secretary, Kristin Andris: Presented minutes from July 21, 2015.
Treasurer, Michelle Botwinick: Update on all local charities that GPNA has supported this year. Listed ways to support GPNA (sunbursts, Mothball, donations, etc.).
Philanthropic, Kim Holland: Neighbors can support Ms. Waller on Cherokee Ave by making donations. GPNA scholarship will be offered. More info to be posted on website. Tour of Nicholas House is being organized.
Public Safety Committee Chair, Chris Newman: Auto entry is most common crime. Don’t keep valuables in your car. If someone blocks your driveway or you hear loud music at any festival call 911. Records of permit violations can help us take action. Putting together tour of video integration and 911 response center. Time TBD, but probably a Saturday morning in September.
Land Use and Zoning, Rick Hudson: The George (replacing AZARS on Memorial Drive) requested an exemption that would allow liquor sales. Motion of support approved unanimously.
Transportation, Jim Vorix: Resolution for Atlanta Bicycle Coalition Membership – Motion approved 22-1. Resolution: Glenwood Ave SE Traffic Calming – Motion approved unanimously. Prospective resolution about 2005 donor restricted funds to come out later this year.
Homes and History, Paul Simo: Current Certificates of Appropriateness reviewed.
Fundraising: Mothball Studio 54 theme revealed. Meeting minutes from July 21 approved.
Open Floor Discussion: David Dreyer introduced himself as candidate for GA House District 59. Janine Brown introduced herself as candidate for GA House District 59. Senator Nan Orock gave update, answered questions. Reynolds Town Throwdown on September 12. Next BeltLine Quarterly Briefing is November. 19.Life Cycle Building Center offers discount building materials.
