The moratorium on building in the Moreland Avenue/East Atlanta Village area expired on December 31. It was holding up activity concerning the redevelopment of the Gordon Elementary School property located on Metropolitan Avenue between Martha Brown Methodist Church on Moreland Avenue and the old fire station on Flat Shoals Road.
Plans call for the demolition of the old school building and the construction of apartments. A permit application was filed in January that would require no variances or zoning changes. Work on construction drawings is ongoing. Closing on the property by Paces Properties should take place in May, with construction beginning after that.
The property is adjacent to Branan Towers on the south and the commercial parking lot behind the stores on Flat Shoals Avenue on the east.
