Trees Atlanta has a new FREE shade tree program available for front yards on private property. The Yard Tree Program, sponsored by the City of Atlanta, in partnership with Trees Atlanta’s NeighborWoods program, is designed to lower summer temperatures and reduce energy consumption by investing in tree canopy cover for Atlanta area neighborhoods. Urban trees decrease energy bills for residents, reduce maintenance costs for streets and storm water infrastructure, increase property values by making neighborhoods more beautiful, walkable, and desirable places to live, and combat the urban heat island effect. These front yard trees are the 30 gallon container size. Have a small front yard? No Problem! In situations where there is not enough space for the larger trees, there is a fruit tree program as well.
This program is available to Atlanta residents only. There is a limit of 3 trees per yard and the trees must be planted in the front yard. Trees will be planted during regular planting season (October through March) and by requesting the trees, you are agreeing to maintain them as well. Please note, shade trees cannot be planted to meet any city recompense requirements.
