First Parkside Stride a Success

By Rebecca Wallace
Five thousand dollars in sponsorships; $550 in individual donations; 350 bottles of water; 400 bananas and granola bars; 300 registered runners; hundreds of families warming up together; $100 worth of coupons in the goodie bags; 13 moms in Principal Sims’ walking “Mom Squad;” 12 balloons; $5 discounted fee for Parkside students; at least three tough hills and one FALSE START! These are some of the numbers that added up to a fantastic and fun first Parkside Stride on March 19.
With Mother Nature cooperating, the school’s first 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run were a huge success. The Parkside PTA thanks all who came out to support the school: students from Parkside as well as other area schools, volunteers, parents, teachers and administrators, APS Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen and her Atlanta Public Schools (APS) running team comprised of school and central office personnel, APS board member Matt Westmoreland, City Councilwoman Carla Smith and other local elected officials and community members. Of course, the school could not have pulled off this amazing event without the support of its sponsors: Intown Pediatrics, ISU Paragon (formerly Holcomb Insurance), Intown Stars Gymnastics, Preferred School Care, Six Feet Under, Shein & Brandenburg, Adams Realtors, Grant Park Neighborhood Association, Southern Smiles Dentistry, Carla Smith, Behind the Curtain, Relish, Helen Kynes and Red Robin Realtors, Snap Fitness, FitWit, Mindzai Creative, Georgia Therapy, Round Here Renovations, Intown Atlanta Speech Therapy, Agave, Doc Chey’s, 3 Parks Wine Shop, Stone Soup Kitchen, Ziba’s Bistro, Give N Go Cleaners, Body Well Chiropractor, and Vickery’s.
With all this amazing support, there’s no doubt neighbors can look forward to a Second Annual Parkside Stride in 2017.
