The February calendar at Oakland is filled with family-friendly opportunities to experience the cemetery in unique and educational ways. Our “We Shall Overcome: African American Stories from Civil War to Civil Rights” tour is free during the month of February in honor and celebration of Black History Month! This tour explores the lives and accomplishments of outstanding and ordinary African Americans who fought to overcome the effects of slavery and discrimination to help shape the history of Atlanta. Tickets for these tours tend to go quickly, so get yours now.
With Valentine’s Day approaching, Oakland has several fun activities to take advantage of with your significant other, family, or friends. The Searching for Love Scavenger Hunt is on from February 4-18! Purchase and download your packet, grab someone you love and head to the cemetery to explore with this love-themed, family-friendly scavenger hunt. Interested in a unique date idea with your valentine this year? Our Love Stories tours on February 12 and 14 are the perfect chance to take a stroll through the cemetery with your loved one. Attendees will even receive a sweet treat to enjoy as the tour guide recounts the many love stories of Oakland! As always, feel free to join us on Saturdays and Sundays during the month of February for a “Sights, Symbols and Stories of Oakland” overview tour, or on one of our many other special topics tours.
