On Saturday, March 9from 12:00pm to 10:00pm, Living Walls is taking art to the streets of the East Atlanta Village. The Living Walls EAV Art Stroll is being held in partnership with the East Atlanta Community Association and the East Atlanta Business Association, and is a free public event with something for kids, families, and bar-goers alike.
The stroll will be the culmination of the Living Walls Concepts Volume 9, a year-long project for the nationally famed organization. Concepts will feature the artists Christopher Derek Bruno, Bridget Quinn, and Molly Rose Freeman.
“We want to challenge artists to activate public space with contemporary projects that create discussion and insight on the visual landscape,” says Living Walls Programming Director Trevor Jones. This is an experiment that will focus on exploration and geometry in the arts. It is being produced on a large scale to engage the public.
The EAV Art Stroll will include artist talks from two of the “Concepts” artists, two new murals, an installation series at empty phone booths, and a guided tour of the three existing Living Walls murals in the village. In addition, Atlanta’s yarn bomb group, The Knitterati, will have knit and crochet pieces installed throughout the Village for the event.
Midway Pub will host an arts and craft market from noon to 6:00pm, which will extend across the street into the East Atlanta Farmers Market and include an array of local artists’ work for sale. The East Atlanta Parents Network will host a kid’s craft corner from 12:00pm to 3:00pm in the East Atlanta Farmers Market. This kid-friendly event will allow parents to browse local arts and crafts while their children have a good time working on art projects.
East Atlanta bars and restaurants will be providing specials for the event, and entertainment will be happening at venues throughout the Village. At dusk, there will be a film screening of the Living Walls Concepts Volume 9 documentary in the Farmers Market area. Celebrate the many perspectives of public space and street art during the Living Walls EAV Art Stroll! Please join us on March 9 for this exciting opportunity to engage people of all ages in an event filled with art.
