By the time you are reading this, depending on weather and other possible causes for delay, construction on Phase II of the East Atlanta Streetscape should have begun. The construction will take place on the north and south ends of the Village with the most extensive work being done near the East Atlanta sign at Moreland and McPherson Avenues. There will be detours and road closures at various times with rerouting of neighborhood streets for weeks at a time.
The confusing intersection at McPherson and Flat Shoals will be transformed into a roundabout and the traffic green island will be moved to the side in front of Buddy’s convenience store. The intersection of Flat Shoals and Glenwood will also get extensive work with new historic markers and street trees extending to Tomatillos restaurant along the north side of Glenwood. The first phase of the project was completed years ago along Flat Shoals between May and Metropolitan Avenues. Construction of this phase may take as long as a year.
