East Atlanta Day a Success for Neighbors

By Carlen Hultgren

A big “thank you” is extended to everyone who came out to support Neighbor in Need (NIN) at The Midway Pub with the awesome Poker with Purpose (subject matter experts) dealing the cards. There were 22 happy participants, and the fantastic volunteers Shannon Carney and Dawn Rivera made sure all the transactions were run and players registered.
Congratulations go out to superstar Stefan Murphy, who was the first-place winner, who then donated $350 of his winnings, back to NIN, showing what a team player he really is. Congratulations to all the other winners and players, some walking away with great prizes, and everyone with a great time. Huge thanks to all for their participation. Thanks also to mentor and partner Kyle Caldwell, who was not able to join the event, but donated $250 to the cause.
Nearly $2,000 was raised from poker and raffle donations. This is the 8th Annual Neighbor in Need Poker Tournament and more than $22,000 has been raised by playing Poker with a Purpose in that time.
While players were enjoying cards across the street, an entire truck bursting with old, broken, and obsolete electronics headed for recycling. Not only did it rid the neighborhood of what might have ended up in the landfill, but for every item donated, a donation was made to NIN.
Great day, great fun, great venues, great charity. Who could ask for more? Look for announcements for the fall version later in the year.
