EACA’s Neighbor in Need Committee Needs You!

By Nancy Carpenter

The East Atlanta Community Association’s (EACA) Neighbor in Need Committee (NIN) is recruiting volunteers to help with its 2019 programs and goals. These exciting new programs will bring more visibility to East Atlanta and showcase the NIN mission to the rest of Atlanta. EACA also wants to encourage home safety for our seniors with simple improvements that may prevent disastrous home accidents. Several key positions are described below.

Corporate Responsibility volunteer — Oversee the creation and implementation of the NIN Committee’s social responsibility objectives and reach out to corporate offices to assist in developing and managing relationships with corporate partners. Many companies have a corporate responsibility goal for their employees to provide some hours of community service per year, and corporations reach these goals by partnering with nonprofit organizations like EACA. The first task for this volunteer will be to create/design the projects available for this type of partnership, such as cleanup days, painting days, and fence install days. Corporations also will be asked to make a financial donation to EACA’s “Neighbor in Need – East Atlanta” initiative to assist with future projects. The second task will be to make those corporate connections. This may sound difficult, but East Atlanta residents who work for corporations that have corporate responsibility goals may already be a part of your social network.

Marketing and Communications volunteer – Write articles for EACA’s monthly newsletter, The Porch Press, and other regular communications to share NIN’s accomplishments, upcoming projects, and fundraising events.

Senior Safety Project Lead volunteer — Drive a new senior safety program, with the goal of inspecting homes to identify and correct simple safety issues. For example, ADA-compliant grab bars in bathrooms; carbon monoxide and smoke detectors throughout the home; eliminating trip hazards; stairway lighting; non-slip surfaces for stairways, landings, and bathtubs; and proper storage of heavy or sharp objects. Please email your interest to neighborinneed@eaca.net.
