EACA Social Was Just the Right Mix

By Steve Devore
Midway Pub was the venue for East Atlanta Community Association’s (EACA’s) Spring Social and Mixer, held on the evening of Friday, March 9.  Following the event, EACA President Lewis Cartee declared the event to be “just the right mix of fund raising, education, and fun.”
EACA organized the event to raise awareness of EACA’s various committees and initiatives, to sign up new members, and to raise money for EACA’s General Fund via a raffle. EACA committee chairs were on hand to educate the inquisitive on the beneficial work performed by their committees and initiatives, and to sign up new volunteers.
Hundreds of local residents turned out, filling Midway Pub with laughter and community spirit both inside and out. According to Cartee, over $1,200 was raised from the raffle for EACA’s General Fund, and more importantly, at least 55 new households became EACA members. Cartee thanked EACA Vice President Kevin Spigener, Beautification Committee Chair Moko Moone, and Events & Development Committee Chair Rose Bigelow for their efforts in organizing the event.  EACA’s new wallet-sized membership cards had arrived just in time to hand out at the event to new and existing members. The membership card will entitle EACA members to area business specials and discounts. Also, reflecting a new policy recently announced by EACA, membership cards now will be required to cast votes on community matters at EACA’s monthly meetings.
As the evening progressed, East Atlantan Nate Minor served as the Master of Ceremonies, calling out winning ticket numbers for the raffle and providing DJ services.  Midway Pub offered cocktail specials, and local Innis & Gunn representative Janet Almeida was on hand providing free tastings of the Scottish brewer’s oak aged ales.  Wasted Potential Brass Band circulated through the crowd adding additional revelry.  All in attendance agreed that a great time was had by all.
EACA wishes to thank the following for raffle prize giveaways:  Midway Pub, Flatiron Bar, Graveyard Tavern, So Ba, The Glenwood, Tomatillos, Village Fitness, OMG Cupcakes, East Atlanta Thai & Sushi, 13 Roses Tattoo, Urban Cannibals, Rep Your Hood, Ms. Tori LaConsay, Park Pet Supply, Big Daddy Dog Biscuits, The Funky Paint Brush, Gourd Bless You, Fit Wit, Coca Cola, Grease Monkeys, Pure Upscale Hair Salon, Village Cigar, Traci With an Eye, Innis & Gunn, and Joe’s Coffee.
