On Sunday, July 23, the East Atlanta Community Association (EACA) kicked off its homeless outreach efforts with a Q&A Panel Discussion at the Brownwood Recreation Center. Panelists included Tracy Woodard, Team Leader at Intown Cares; Sherri McCoy, local East Atlantan and CEO of Blessing Bags of Warmth For The Homeless; and Brad Schweers, Executive Director of Intown Cares and also an East Atlantan. Topics included the state of homelessness in East Atlanta, steps we can each take to make progress in this area; and plans that EACA is launching in the coming months to support our unhoused neighbors. You can view the livestream of the panel event at EACA’s Instagram @EACA1980.

EACA is committed to supporting our homeless neighbors wherever they may be in their journey toward housing. Upcoming efforts that we will be discussing and launching in the coming months include a community-wide sign-up to support the Eastside Church closet; a dedicated social worker for East Atlanta who will provide counseling, support, and resource access to the unhoused; and creative solutions to provide temporary housing.

Community members who would like to get involved can do so right away by signing up to help stock the Eastside Church pantry. Visit the following URL to learn more and join the EAV Street Outreach Slack channel: t.ly/PszGr.

If you’d like to join our efforts in building bigger solutions in this area, please reach out to outreach@eaca.net or president@eaca.net.
