Upcoming events: EACA’s Community Outreach Committee hosts a Drag Queen Bingo fundraiser at Holy Taco on June 8, 3pm-6 pm. East Atlanta Block Parties – street closures funded by EACA with a grant from the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Culture Affairs. “Mayhem on Milton Ave” on June 8 and “M&M Melt” at the Marbut Ave & McWilliams Ave dogleg on another June weekend. Inspiritus presentation – New program in Atlanta seeking youth host homes to provide supportive, short-term housing for youth ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness and/or leaving the foster care system, with a focus on youth who identify as LGBTQ.

Public Safety Committee: Update from Zone 6 Assistant Commander for the East Atlanta beat – Captain Antonio B. Clay II (abclay@atlantaga.gov): Good news / bad news – Major Klotzer has moved on, New commander – Major Rick Vazquez. 30th year of service. Majority of career in homicide investigations. 2 weeks in Zone 6 as a rookie. Looking forward to continuing the community involvement and solving crimes. Unconditional respect to everyone – no matter station in life. Big deal for him, as well as Chief Shields. Continue to reduce crime / keep safe. Q: 911 incident today – train kids in EAFM (Officer Mohammed) can ask them to leave premises. Captain Clay – help on crime – If you have friends who ride bikes – lock them up. Bike thefts are going up. Get your serial numbers – take a photo makes a big difference; being sold on FB, LetGO. Mr. Harris – 2248 Glenwood – in stolen vehicle. Mr. Vill – 420 Moreland – in stolen vehicle. 1242 Glenwood – approached male in restaurant and attempted robbery. Don’t rob people in Zone 6!!!!! Q: Standing trespass on EAFM – belongs to Georgia power. Q: Does the APD have auctions any more A: 3rd party agency manages. May be something on the city website. Q: Call 911 when folks are parked and impacting bike lanes – they will be cited. Only companies (utility) with permit can block bike lanes. zone6cid is best way to be able to share photos. Speeding on Moreland – cut through traffic / go to FB live. Zone 6 is #1 for Porch Pirates – set up alternate location if able. Speeders and racers are gone for now; need you to call if you see them. Speeders on Flat Shoals. Fine for running stop sign (Bouldercrest/Flat Shoals/Ormewood) 3-way stop. Will bring traffic officer to next meeting.

Employ officers in the room – off duty to keep community safer. Special offer. Membership benefits (Patrol where most membership, Vacation – will alert officers and APD) CoA only. Burglaries 2017 – 73 in EAV last you 43 – this year 8. Pedestrian robbery down. Auto theft – we are not doing well. No extra keys, running cars. Quality of life issues. 1839 Braeburn Circle – owner has informed EASP that the property has been sold. Hopeful the new owner will be more responsible. Has anyone else been called? Several neighbors have called code enforcement. Do not have to be a member to call.

Business Committee: Update on the process to re-start East Atlanta Business Association 7 – 11 people to stand up to dedicate their time to become BoD Members. First BoD on May 20th. Secured 3 months to secure contractor for an additional 3 months to assist with building out infrastructure. (courtesy of N. Archibong) Over 40 people in attendance – excited to see where this will go. General meetings every 6 weeks for community to join with biz owners. Shout to Argosy, Midway Pub (check FB live). first 30 minutes – business / last 60 minutes – networking. In EACA boundaries. All brick and mortar, all home businesses, other FB Live stream on EABA FB page – entire meeting has been posted.

Land Use and Zoning Committee: Meets last Saturday of each month, 9 am in Branan Towers | NPU 1st Tuesday @ Village Church. Sabbath Brewing – located behind Flat Iron. Present, but cannot operate. Micro-breweries are not ???? in EAV. Asked EAV to include micro-brewing. Motion to initiate process. Why didn’t we include – only exclusions are dry cleaners, payday loans, strip clubs. Never a considered use – recent designation. What does a microbrewery look like – it is a manufacturing facility (manufactures beer) people can drink & tour there. Is there any thought process into what micro-brewing actually means? Voting rules – anyone who is currently a member of EACA and live in CoA. CoA/EACA Membership only. Motion to approve concept 27 / 1 / 4. Update on Subdivision Application SD-19-009 for 1560 Flat Shoals Road SE (a/k/a the Nicholson Street extension) Formerly known as 820 Flat Shoals. If submitted by May 24 is will be heard. after – it will be heard in late July. Discussed at EACA LUZ meeting at 9am on the 25th in Branan Towers. Update on the proposed development of 770 Shadowridge (a/k/a Ormewood Forest) and the City Design Studios initial proposal. Commissioner Kean of planning department – Urban Design Studio – Is it a recommendation to the developers? Yes. Re-write of Atlanta’s tree ordinance is underway. The City’s Community Development/Human Services Committee will hold a work session to review a draft of the new ordinance on June 19 at 11am. NPU-W Committee: NPU-W has grant funds available for community festivals and for neighborhood meet & greet events. The deadline for EACA’s proposal to the NPU is June 10th – send your ideas to grants@eaca.net. ~$3500 available for all neighborhoods in the area. Deadline to NPU is June 10 – sent to grants@eaca.net There are rules – Cannot spend on capital expenditures.

Parks and Greenspace Committee: Brownwood Park update – 1st Saturday – Greenspace Guardians (invasive species control). Kids Club – Deloitte Partnership around 1st week of June. Putting materials down to aid with soggy path area. Overplanting of trees – has there been a resolution – can we commandeer for the park. Public Meeting on the proposal to exchange a large forested portion of Entrenchment Creek Greenspace for cleared land owned by Blackhall Studios – Monday, May 20, 6:30pm, at McNair High School, 1804 Bouldercrest Rd. BeltLine meeting on Thur Atlanta toolbank – 6:30 Atlanta Beltline Presentation – entrenchment creeks.

East Atlanta Block Parties – street closures funded by EACA with a grant from the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Culture Affairs. “Mayhem on Milton Ave” 2 – 8pm sponsored by Truth & Lending (mortgage broker) Keller Nap – 3 bands, DJ, whole taco bar and spread. Anything for a taco bar. Salsa contest/guacamole contest. On June 8 and “M&M Melt” at the Marbut Ave & McWilliams Ave dogleg on another June weekend.

Inspiritus presentation: New program in Atlanta seeking youth host homes to provide supportive, short-term housing for youth ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness and/or leaving the foster care system, with a focus on youth who identify as LGBTQ. In partnership with CoA – combating youth homelessness. Host homes are designed to be short – term interventions. Successfully down in numerous cities. One of the best ways to provide opportunity to person – in the effort to transition into something more permanent. Putting the choice back with those who have had choice taken away. Consultative process. Potential lifelong friendships. Assistance with hosting – monthly stipend for offsetting. Training – Next open house event Epiphany ????? this Thursday. Mentors, donation drives and fundraising. 20 homes serving 30 youths. Q: What is really expected of a host? A: It depends. When working with a host, the question will be asked what is your limit? Private space and safe home.
