Deviant Behavior in and around Grant Park

By Chris Newman
Grant Park Security Patrol Report (GPSP): There have been a number of disturbing reports of deviant behavior in and around Grant Park recently. Police advise that we call 911 immediately when a situation does not feel right. An initial report from early morning of August 27 noted that a female jogger was approached from behind and pinched or grabbed on her backside. She screamed, and the man took off south on Boulevard. Since he approached her from behind, we do not have any more detailed description. She managed to escape, and at this time we have no other details. Anyone jogging alone before sunrise should exercise caution and be aware of the surroundings.
There have been a couple of other recent reports of men exposing themselves during the daytime and early evening. Zone 6 is doing some overnight sweeps in the park to address the situation.
Unfortunately, this week there have also been three robberies in and around the neighborhood. One was in the green space at Glenwood Park at mid-day; a second occurred in the morning at a Cabbagetown park; and the third was on Wood Street and Memorial at 10:00pm near the Jane. The two male victims at Glenwood and Cabbagetown were approached by two or three black males and had wallets and cell phones taken. The female victim on Wood Street was working on her computer and was approached by one black male. He then took her computer.
Please keep cars clean of valuables, and do not leave spare keys in the glove box or console. Vehicle larcenies continue to be a problem especially near the restaurants along Memorial Drive. These are happening at all times of the day and night. Do not assume its okay to leave valuables in the car even while having lunch.
There have been numerous complaints about the lack of service when Grant Park residents go to the Zone 3 precinct on Cherokee. It is confusing for everyone that a different precinct office is located here and, the patrol is working with Major Cavendar, Zone 3 commander, to address this issue.
