Bound To Be Read – New Ownership?

By Henry Bryant
For three months or more, discussions have been ongoing regarding the future of Bound to Be Read Books in East Atlanta Village. Current owner Jeff McCord let it be known over a year ago that he needed to step back from day to day management and ownership of the store due to family considerations. Several residents of the neighborhood approached Jeff about purchasing the store after talks with interested parties from outside of the neighborhood fell through late in the summer. A group of people who live in the neighborhood has been coalescing around the idea of purchasing the store in order to keep this cultural resource alive in our neighborhoods, and at the same time keep retail alive in the East Atlanta Village. The group is striving to assemble the funds necessary not only to purchase the store but to sustain it for a year or more, noting that many small businesses fail early in their existence because of under capitalization. After nine years in business it has garnered an excellent reputation not only in the community, but also as an independent bookseller regionally and nationally. The aspiring bookstore owner group is trying to wrap things up before January 1, 2015 so that the purchase can be finalized in the new year. Anyone wishing to find out more information about joining this effort should call 404-377-6148 or email hbryant@mindspring.com.
