By Michelle Bowers
Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (ANCS) is howling with excitement to announce its first annual Run with the Wolves ANCS 5K   1Mile   Health Fair on Saturday, April 14. Runners and walkers of all ages and speeds are invited to participate in the 5K at 8:30am or the 1 Mile at 9:00am, with event-day race registration beginning bright and early at 7:30am. The Health Fair, including local area health and fitness businesses and providers, will be from 9:00am until noon.
“We want our students to embrace healthy choices in both nutrition and lifestyle, so we do our best to educate them inside and out of the classroom,” said ANCS elementary physical exercise teacher and event coordinator Kerrie Hall. “The 5K and 1 Mile races, and the Health Fair are fun ways to bring our neighborhoods together for a healthy celebration of fun and learning.”
The morning event will be held at ANCS’ middle school campus, located at 820 Essie Avenue in Ormewood Park. Parking is limited to some side streets near the school and the parking lot of Ormewood Park Presbyterian Church, located at 1071 Delaware Avenue SE. All nearby neighbors are encouraged to warm up for the race by walking or biking, not driving, to the event. Organizers would like to encourage others to carpool when possible.
Organized by the ANCS PTCA and the school’s Health and Wellness Committee, the Run with the Wolves event is a further demonstration of the school’s intent to support healthy kids and families. The school provides students with a wide variety of physical activities including sports clubs, daily recess, and physical education, as well as a nutritious lunch program and class snacks.
The Health Fair will include information and demonstrations from local businesses and organizations, such as: Chickin Feed, Circus Arts Institute, CrossFit on the Move, FitWit, Georgia State Nursing students, Grant Park Farmers Market, Inman Park Kids Dental Spot, Intown Pediatrics, Nirvana Yoga, and Top Tier Baseball. As part of the Health Fair, the ANCS school band will perform, and some popular food trucks and vendors, including Pressed for Time and King of Pops, will be on site for delicious and nutritious lunch options.
All pre-registered participants for the 5K and 1 Mile will receive a specially designed, short-sleeved, 100-percent cotton event shirt. Awards will be presented to the first overall male and female; top finishers in 13 age categories; masters male and female; overall stroller male and female, as well as overall largest group participant. Young participants in the 1 Mile race will receive award ribbons.
ANCS would like to thank this year’s sponsors—Adams Realtors, Astro Jump, Big Peach Running Co., Cameli’s Pizza, L5Flyers, and JavaVino—for their support.
