ANCS Gains New Principal

By Matt Underwood
This summer, Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (ANCS) welcomed Dr. Cathey Goodgame as the new principal to its middle school campus in Ormewood Park.   Former Principal Matt Underwood has moved into the position of Executive Director for ANCS, after serving as the middle school campus principal since 2007.
Goodgame began her career in education as an 8th grade mathematics teacher in Fulton County Schools.  From 2004 to 2010, she served as an assistant principal at the middle school level in Fulton County schools.  She then became the assistant principal at Renfroe Middle School in Decatur, where she has served for the past three years.  As a school leader, she has played an integral role in teacher support and evaluation, school climate initiatives, and special education planning.  Her experience in Decatur with the international baccalaureate program will be helpful in understanding the program, which many ANCS students will see when they transition to Maynard Jackson High School.
In addition to her experience in schools, Goodgame has also closely studied what works in education.  She holds an undergraduate degree from Emory, a master’s degree from Wake Forest University and an Ed.D from Vanderbilt University.  She has earned the trust and admiration of her families and colleagues at her previous schools.  ANCS is thrilled to welcome her to its school community and look forward to her leadership.
There will be opportunities for those in Ormewood Park and surrounding neighborhoods to meet Principal Goodgame in the coming weeks.  Announcements of these events will come soon.
