A Message from the Grant Park Conservancy

By Alisa Chambers
Hello! The Grant Park Conservancy (GPC) is the non-profit organization whose mission is to protect, enhance and preserve historic Grant Park. We work hard to help make Grant Park the world-class greenspace it deserves to be.
It’s the busy park season again, with vacationers, family reunions, festivals, 5K races and more, all happening in and around Grant Park. We get more park users now than any other season of the year!
Now is the time to get out there and take advantage of what’s left of our summer. When you do hit the park, the pool or the playground, make sure to do it safely. Lock your car and put valuables in the trunk. Don’t leave your cell phone or purse unattended and report suspicious activity. Also, wear sunscreen and drink lots of water! We don’t want you getting sunburned or getting dehydrated, either.
Next spring, we’d like to host the first ever Grant Park Dog Show fundraiser, but we need to know if you and your dog are interested in participating. Categories would include “Cutest Dog” and “Best Trick,” plus other “honorable mention”-type categories. We would use the funds we raise to procure a professional survey regarding the possibility of building a dog park in Grant Park and to help restock the doggie bag stations. If your dog could totally win (and we know there are some awesome dogs in Grant Park!), send an email to info@gpconservancy.org and let us know you want to enter or serve on the committee.
The GPC is a community organization that looks to you, the park user, to help us further our mission. Your support through membership allows us to continue bringing you programs such as the Grant Park Farmers Market, volunteer work days to beautify the park, additional trash cans, and added security. Please become a member today by visiting our website: www.gpconservancy.org. You can also find additional information about work days, programs and events and contact information for the GPC, plus updates on what we’re working on now to improve your favorite park.
And don’t forget- our largest fundraiser of the year, the eleventh annual Summer Shade Festival, is coming up on the last weekend in August (the 24th and 25th). We hope to see you there!
