Runoffs, November 30, Citywide and Local

By Paul Bolster

With the large number of candidates running for office, (fourteen just for mayor), it is expected there will be a number of important races that will have to be settled by a run-off election. Under state election law a candidate must get 50% of the vote plus one vote to be elected. For the first time there will be only 30 days between the General Election and the Run-Off Election scheduled for November 30.

In addition to voting for mayor, all voters in Atlanta can vote for three At-Large members of the Atlanta City Council and they can vote for one member from the district where they live.

Hitting just after Thanksgiving, the results of the run-off election on November 30, will determine who will govern us for the next four years. Expect candidates to compete for some of your holiday time. A large turn-out of voters in the Porch Press territory will get the attention of those elected to office. Make a plan to early vote or vote on November 30.
