On Saturday, September 18, the sun broke through the clouds following a week of incessant rain and gave the community a brilliant day for a return to in-person Brownwood Bike Rally. This longtime community event, now in its 17th year, brought kids, families, cyclists, spectators, and East Atlanta Kids Club staff and supporters together for a day of fitness, fun, and festivities.
After 2020’s bike rally went virtual due to the ongoing pandemic, this return to the traditional format saw more than 250 participants, volunteers, and supporters take to the streets and park. The largest group of racers on the day was the kids, with 86 kids hitting the course around Brownwood Park and then making their way through the youth bike rodeo and festival fun zone. The adults brought it as well with 45 men and women riding across all heats and our CRIT-CX women taking home the biggest prizes on the day (following the lead of friends at the Grant Park Criterium).
As always, proceeds from this event support ongoing afterschool, summer camp, and food security programming at East Atlanta Kids Club, and thanks to the generous sponsors within this community and further afield, EAKC raised north of $38,000 that will go right back into services for our deserving and awesome youth here in southeast Atlanta. The rally will be back again next September, and everyone can look forward to having even more neighbors join! More info can be found at www.brownwoodbikerally.com and www.eastatlantakids.org.
