This Month at the Market

By Carlen Ruth Hultgren

The East Atlanta Village Farmer’s Market EAVFM) has moved into the month of October with loads of activities planned for the kids, the adults, and the community as a whole. Coming off a very successful and popular Okra Day, Katie Kriner, manager of the EAV Farmer’s Market, promises fun, food, and friendship in the weeks left in this season’s Farmer’s Market. With a pandemic still looming, the neighborhood Farmer’s Market has been a great place this season for the village to gather in a setting that allows for easy social distancing, as well as camaraderie with neighbors and familiar vendors.

Halloween is Katie’s favorite holiday, so yes, there will be a number of activities that reflect the season, it’s food offerings and the fun and warmth of the fall season. Say yes to costumes, pumpkins, warm fall spices and cooler weather. Here is the lineup as of publication:

October 7, 14, and 12 – The Pumpkin Truck from Traditions Company will be there with pumpkins of all sizes. The market will also have its own little pumpkin patch.

October 14- EAVFM friend Parnass, of Talat Market will do a demo, preparing a seasonal dish that inspires him. Talat Market has been featured on the cover for Atlanta Magazine and Bon Appetit.

October 21- The great Pumpkin Fest will include a viewing of the classic family TV special “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” Vendors will be asked to participate with pumpkin-themed products (similar to Okra Day) There will be other pop-up food vendors as well. The Market is working with Q from We Suki Suki on this project.

October 28- HallowEAVN will be the theme at the Farmer’s Market. Free fall photos of your family or kids, screening of a Halloween movie TBD, and kid-friendly music by Alyssa Easterly whose puppets and bubbles are loved by the younger villagers. Partners in this event are Roots Realty.

The EAV Farmers Market is located at 572 Stokeswood Avenue, across from the Midway Pub in the middle of the Village. Hours are Thursdays 4:00pm until dark.
