SAND Meeting Minutes

July 8, 2021

Call to orderAnnouncements (5 minutes): Voting rights (3 meetings, or $10 membership). Vacant Committee Chairs and Neighborhood Representatives – Public Safety, Social, Glenwood Park, North Ormewood Park, Ormewood Park, Woodland Hills.

Zone 6 (5 minutes): SAND inquiries re: crime statistics should be sent to Major Ries (pjries@atlantaga.gov). Gas stations are becoming hot spots for vehicle and property thefts. Be alert and don’t leave firearms, valuables, or key fobs in vehicles.

Beautification (5 minutes): Update from Working Group on future of Red’s Farm. Veggie sale in early July raised almost $500 in support of Red’s Farm. Red has requested that the Working Group pause their efforts for the summer so that he might conduct some additional independent research.

Communications (2 minutes): Like SAND on Facebook, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter.  Please submit any ideas for the newsletter to us.

Southeast Political Club is welcoming new participants. Not affiliated with SAND. Meetings on 4th Thursday of the month. 4 candidates for City Council will be joining at the next meeting to discuss the election. Treasurer (5 minutes): Amazon Smile / Kroger Rewards. Trolleys available for $45 unpainted, $60 painted.

Public Safety (5 minutes): Zone 6 Citizen Advisory Committee resumed meetings on 7/8/21. Detectives moved away from zone assignments and back to a centralized location and assigned to various specialized units. NPU-W PSC working with Zone 6 to better analyze crime statistics and disseminate this data and information to citizens of NPU-W.

Transportation (15 minutes): Update on Moreland/Glenwood Realignment. EPD determined that there were no specific contaminants that drove any concerns. No further reporting needed by EPD and the contractor can return back to full force to complete the project. Updated completion date expected to be February 2022, pending no additional unexpected issues.

Land Use and Zoning (LU&Z) (5 minutes per): V-21-134 / 926 Mercer Street: Variance from the zoning regulation to reduce the front yard setback of an R-4 parcel from 35’ to 24’ for construction of a second story addition to an existing one-story house. LUZ: Motion to recommend approval was adopted unanimously. SAND: Approved LUZ motion to recommend approval 12Y – 0N – 2A. U-21-013 / 765 Moreland Ave: Application for a Special Use Permit to establish park for hire on the premises. LUZ: Motion to recommend defer/deny for 60 days was adopted unanimously for additional input. SAND: Motion to approve LUZ motion to defer/deny for 60 days denied 3Y – 9N – 2A. Motion to recommend denial of U-21-013 approved unanimously. CDP Update 2021 – NPU-W Policies and Additional Recommendations: Comments compiled by the NPU-W Ad-hoc CDP Update Review Committee. LUZ: Motion to recommend approval was adopted unanimously with a modification to define the location of entrenchment creek park area and suggest additional park space as additional entrenchment creek adjacent properties are annexed. SAND: Approved LUZ motion, with modifications, to recommend approval 11Y –0N –3A.
