We know how much you’ve been enjoying Grant Park over this past year—we see you out there all the time! Become a member of the Grant Park Conservancy today, and help us continue to restore, maintain, and beautify your favorite park.
You’ve probably seen the structural tree pruning work we’ve been doing on the east side of the park. Large piles of limbs and debris are left behind after our arborculturist carefully prunes the trees to improve their shape and health. We depend on Project G.R.A.N.T. workday volunteers to collect the limbs and create piles for removal and then we coordinate with City of Atlanta for pick-up. Lots of teamwork is involved in caring for Grant Park.
The main goals for the area we are currently working in are to keep the trees healthy and to increase the amount of sun coming in through the trees. This sunlight encourages grass growth which in turn helps mitigate erosion issues. The Conservancy is guided by a master plan that has visual, aesthetic, and ecological goals. In addition to the structural tree pruning we conduct each year, we also remove extensive amounts of invasive plant species, plant scores of native, location-appropriate trees, and work to manage viewsheds both within and into the park.
Join us in our efforts to continue to improve the tree canopy, safety, aesthetics, and ecological health of Atlanta’s most historic park. Become a member, or purchase an engraved playground brick (which comes with a one-year membership). The first one hundred people to become a member at the $100 level or above or purchase a playground brick will be entered into a raffle for over $100 in gift cards to local restaurants (thanks to our friends at Dakota Blue, Firepit, Six Feet Under, and Agave). You can also register to volunteer with the Grant Park Conservancy on our second Saturday Project G.R.A.N.T. work days. (See www.gpconservancy.org/events-programs/volunteer-work-days/ for details.)
Leave your mark in the park, possibly win dinners for a week, and have the satisfaction of knowing you’re contributing to the care and maintenance of your favorite greenspace! Become a member today. Visit https://gpconservancy.square.site for more information.
